About The Hop

Public transit is by its very nature inclusive. Its role in our country has always been to open doors and build connectivity, making more destinations more accessible to more people. Greater mobility is inextricably linked with greater opportunity, while a lack of mobility breeds isolation and segregation.

At The Hop, we believe strongly in building a more connected, inclusive community where every resident has equal access to opportunity and advancement. We stand firmly against racism, segregation and injustice. We believe our strength as a city lies in our diversity, and that the diverse voices of our community must be heard, respected and celebrated. We believe that racism is, indeed, a public health crisis, and that meaningful change to address systemic racism in our community is long overdue. Every citizen, organization, leader and elected official has a civic and moral obligation to work towards a more equitable and just future for us all.

We also believe that actions speak louder than words. The Hop is committed to:

• Building and maintaining a diverse and inclusive workforce free of discrimination
• Developing an internship and/or apprenticeship program to introduce students from low-income neighborhoods to career opportunities in public transit maintenance and operations
• Working to develop partnerships with local Black-owned and minority-owned businesses
• Setting and achieving aggressive Residential Preference Program (RPP) and minority participation benchmarks for all future streetcar expansion
